Core Team

NEVEN KRESIC

Neven Kresic, Ph.D., P.G. is an independent groundwater consultant with more than 40 years of experience focused on groundwater and surface water consulting, research, and teaching. He specializes in characterizing and analyzing complex groundwater systems for water supply and groundwater remediation projects and is an expert in the application of numerical models for simulating groundwater flow, and contaminant fate and transport in groundwater. Over the course of his career, Dr. Kresic served in lead technical roles at major national and international engineering and environmental consulting companies based in the United States.

Dr. Kresic has worked on numerous projects for a variety of U.S. and international clients including federal, state, and local agencies; industries such as water, transportation, and power utilities; and oil, petrochemical, chemical, mining, and construction companies. He was Senior Fulbright Scholar at the United States Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia, and the George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Dr. Kresic taught academic courses and professional workshops in hydrogeology, groundwater modeling, and groundwater remediation at universities, government agencies, and conferences around the World. He authored and co-authored numerous papers and seven books on the topic of groundwater. Dr. Kresic is a founding member of the Ground Water Modeling Interest Group sponsored by the National Ground Water Association. He currently serves as Chair on the Board of Directors of Karst Waters Institute (KWI).

MARINKO KARANOVIC

Mr. Karanovic is a Senior Hydrogeologist at S.S. Papadopulos and Assoc., Maryland, United States. He has extensive technical expertise in Hydrogeology, numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, programming and software development. He is the developer of GroundWater Desktop, a fully three-dimensional (3D) interface for visualization and 3D analysis of groundwater models, their results and environmental data such as water levels and chemistry. His experience includes interpreting data from hydrogeologic investigations, creation and modification of groundwater flow and transport models, and assisting in remedial design and optimization.

Mr. Karanovic earned his Bachelor of Science in Hydrogeology at the University of Belgrade and a Master’s degree in Hydrogeology at the Ohio State University. During the last two decades, he worked with groundwater flow and contaminant transport models as remediation options at numerous sites in the United States and internationally. Among numerous papers, Mr. Karanovic authored and co-authored the following software: ATRANS, A 3D analytical solution for transport from a patch boundary condition with time-varying concentration; KT3D_H2O Version 3.0: A Program for Kriging Water Level Data using Hydrologic Drift Terms.; BIOSCREEN-AT: A screening-level model developed for and distributed by the EPA that simulates remediation through natural attenuation of dissolved hydrocarbons at petroleum fuel release sites.

NENAD MARIC

Dr. Nenad „Sean“ Maric is an Associate Professor of Hydrogeology at the University of Belgrade and an international environmental contract consultant. He is a hydrogeologist with more than ten years of research and engineering experience including environmental projects with industries in Europe and North America. His professional expertise includes regulatory reporting/programs (Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Groundwater Monitoring Programs, Remediation Activity) based on a deep understanding of site characterization, groundwater engineering: development, monitoring, protection and remediation, non-aqueous phase liquids, monitored natural attenuation, and bioremediation.

He received M.S. in Hydrogeological Engineering, and Ph.D. in Contaminant Hydrogeology, all from University of Belgrade. In 2022, he was awarded a Fulbright post-doctoral award at the Western Kentucky University for the study of the fate of petroleum hydrocarbons and biodegradation processes in hydrocarbon-contaminated karst aquifers. He is registered as a Certified Professional Geologist by the American Institute of Professional Geologists, and European Geologist by the European Federation of Geologists. Dr. Maric serves on the Panel of Experts on Hydrogeology by the European Federation of Geologists.
